San Diego: Roy’s San Diego Waterfront

San Diego: Roy’s San Diego Waterfront

Jumbo Tiger Prawn with Shoyu Udon

The tiger prawns were amazing! The udon noodles were al dente  with not too much sauce. Under the ginormous, tasty shrimp are bell peppers and edamame. The shrimp was great because it wasn’t too tough or chewy. The soy sauce on the noodles was sweet and salty at the same time. I would recommend this dish to anyone that likes seafood or just pasta in general.

Jenga Fries*

These french fries were very crunchy. They have the right amount of salt and a nice kick of truffle.

*These fries are called truffle fries, not Jenga Fries.

Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle (lava cake)

This chocolate lava cake was the star of the meal. When it first comes, there is a wonderful presentation with the lava cake next to a big scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and some different berries. When you break through the crunchy crust on the cake, a river of hot chocolate flows out(Be careful to not let it burn your tongue). The chocolate is bittersweet so it has the perfect balance of sweetness and crunchiness. It’s amazing something flourless can taste so good!

WHAT THE PARENTS THINK

  1. Roy’s San Diego Waterfront is part of The Marriott Marquis in Down Town.  This is important because they VALIDATE.  The average price to park in Down Town is $10/hour.  If you eat at Roy’s it’s just a flat $10 for self parking.  It’s $12 for valet if you want to make it a special night.  Even if you’re not up for a full meal, just go and grab some Molten Lava Cake.  The kids will thank you for it!!
  2. If you’re a Costco member, they do offer Roy’s gift cards.
  3. At the time of this posting, Roy’s Chef and Partner is Quy Trinh. Call the restaurant prior if you special dietary needs.  Chef Quy will do his best to assure a fantastic meal.  We provided Chef Quy possible dishes our child might want to order.  He provided detailed carb counting for us making the meal very smooth.
  4. Menu items are good for the entire family.  Their website does have a children’s menu thats more interesting than most.
  5. The Jenga Fries came with my steak order.  Didn’t include carb count, because he stole it from my plate.
  6. Order the flourless chocolate cake!!

FOOD I RECOMMEND OUTSIDE THE KIDS MENU INCLUDING CARBOHYDRATE COUNT

Provide by Chef Quy (but call Roy’s to get the most updated information.  Carb info below is based on our experience. We don’t guarantee the accuracy or validity of the information.  Use at your own risk!!)
